![]() Phase 1. To begin we will do a simple breathing exercise to stabilize and enhance our energy system. This breathing is wonderful to calm the thinking mind and to ground the overall system. It is taken from the Indian Yogic system of pranayama and we can call it ‘breath of fire’. To do this simply draw in and contract the diaphragm (pull in the belly) as you breath out and then let go and naturally allow the breath to come in as the diaphragm expands. The only effort is needed on the out breath, no effort is needed on the in-breath. Do this breathing through the nose. An easy way to get into this type of breathing is first to mimic the panting of a dog breathing through the mouth, breath out pulling in the belly and then when you get the hang of it start to do it through the nose. You can do this breathing at a fairly brisk pace for around 5 minutes. Rest for a few moments, experience the now-ness of the present moment and notice any changes within your system. Phase 2. Now we will do another breathing exercise that is drawn from the Indian Yogic System again but contains a western twist. Simply breathe in and then hold the breath. As you hold the breath begin to tense all the muscles in your body. In your legs, in your chest and arms, all throughout the body. Hold your breath for whatever length of time you wish and then let go of this tension and breath normally for a few seconds. Then repeat this exercise 3-5 times. Do this for around 5 minutes. Rest for a few moments, experience the now-ness of the present moment and notice any changes within your system. Phase 3. Now slowly move your head from side to side releasing as much tension as you can, this will allow the energy to flow freely up into the head without any blockages. Do this for around 3 minutes. As you are doing phase one, two and three hold your awareness in the area around your navel and solar plexus, your third chakra, your hara, this will help to generate a rich fountain of energy from deep within your system. Rest for a few moments, experience the now-ness of the present moment and notice any changes within your system. Phase 4. Now we are going to begin to count the breath. As you breathe in count one, then breath out, then breath in and count two. Do this all the way to seven and then begin again at one. As you are counting the breath imagine and visualise the numbers in a deep dark bright blue colour. Imagine this colour as alive as possible, vibrant, vital full of sparkles and stars like bubbling champagne. After you have counted up to seven around three times, pause for a few moment and physically massage your forehead especially just between and above the eyebrows but all over your forehead as well in spirals or vertical and horizontal movements. Then continue with the counting. Doing this massage and counting with vibrant colour will deeply stimulate the brow centre/third eye. As you do this massage and also as you count hold your attention in your brow centre. Do this for around 10 minutes. Phase 5. Now either keep the dark blue or switch to a purple of violet colour and keeping your attention at your brow centre start to imagine/visualise simple forms such as: Blue man, blue mountain, blue sky, blue river. Just allow your mind to move from one to the next like a moving vision screen inside your imagination. Do this for around 10 minutes. As you do phase four and five you may find that you sometimes just want to stay on one form, such as blue seven or blue mountain etc. Just allow yourself to do so and go deeply into the image. Allow yourself to become absorbed into the image, pulse with it, become one with it. Rest for a few moments, experience the now-ness of the present moment and notice any changes within your system. To end this practice come back to your navel, solar plexus area, hara, belly, third chakra area and just rest and ground yourself here for a while. Allow yourself around 40 mins to 1 hour to do this meditation. This is a powerful meditation practice that will deeply stimulate and activate your third eye. Seek to be relaxed yet attentive as you practice. Do not do this practice without also working on your other energy centres, root chakra, heart chakra etc and always give yourself suitable rest periods between practices so that your energy system can adapt and integrate the changes.
